Agreed here. (It would really be nice to know if Microsoft had even planned on upgrading Movie Maker 2, or had planned on releasing more transitions/effects -- or even a proper guide into the different effect parameters in the "Creating Transitions and Effects" whitepaper.)

"Sky Captain" effect 12/8/2004 11:52:18 PM   (Total replies: 3)
Hi everyone! Tinkered around with this one a couple months back after seeing "Sky Captain." Just now realized I hadn't posted it yet (oops!)! Copy, paste text below into notepad and save as "skycaptain.xml" in Program Files/Movie Maker/Shared/AddOnTFX file (if no "AddOnTFX" folder, create new folder). <TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0"> <Effects> <EffectDLL guid="{E673DCF2-C316-4c6f-AA96-4E4DC6DC291E}" > <Effect name="Sky Captain" iconid="28" comment="Sky Captain"> <Param ...

Sounds cool....do you have the code? I'd like to check it out. (I guess I could do my own tweaking, but tweaking is such a subjective art -- your judgement might be better than mine).

Nice! I think I like your effects better than mine! #2 is more subtle to me...which I like. #3 actually is a nice added effect for brightening the picture slightly without using the "Brightness" effect (which is often too much for me). And the Heavy effect is surreal and strange (I love it!). It could either be used for an angelic piece, or for a cool flashback sequence.

Applications for Winter Fun Pack 2004 in WMM2.....? 12/7/2004 11:02:09 PM   (Total replies: 1)
Just downloaded the 2004 Winter Fun Pack, as advertised on the home page of www.windowsmoviemakers.net... Are there any additional features in this pack that apply to Windows Movie Maker 2? That is, any additional effects/transitions/etc. that can be used? (In the 2003 Winter Fun Pack, there were several Winter-oriented transitions and effects like the "Snowflakes" effect and "Snowwipe" transition; in the 2004 Fun Pack, it looks like there are none.) I know Photo Story 3 was included in ...

Hi Papajohn! If you don't mind me asking, how would one go about capturing some of those visualizations? (I actually have become quite attached to the "Yule Log" visualization, and have thought of combining the PIP effects found on this forum to create some stylized fireplace effects). Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again, Aquasloth

Cool! Thanks for the tip! (Forgot Windows Media Encoder had that screen capture feature -- good to know!) Aquasloth

"Strobe"-like flashes on Saving Movie to File? 1/29/2005 1:48:07 AM   (Total replies: 0)
Hello everyone! Has anyone encountered the same problem I've just encountered? After editing together a short video and saving it to disk, right before nearly every edit there is what appears to be some strange strobe-like flash (of a couple frames). After re-importing that video into a new project and going frame-by-frame during the edits, I've noticed that the strobe-like flashes are still images of previous images in the video (broad example, if the first clip were of a kitten, then of ...

Re: Sample of a dual screen effect... 1/23/2005 9:14:18 PM   (Total replies: 1)
I am intrigued! Do tell! I'm thinking you could additionally chroma that as a background and insert an actor in front of those two screen images, like a newscast/newsroom kinda thing, or perhaps have the actor with his back to the camera, as though the actor was looking at two security screens or something similar. In any case, it looks like a very useful effect! How do you do it? Aquasloth

Thanks, dlk, you rock it out! Never even realized that about the "simulated" skewed image! Very clever! Thanks again! Aquasloth
