| Welcome to the forum...
It's not a very stange problem... as you see, MM2.6 and 6.0 versions can co-exist on the same computer, but v2.6 is meant to be a temporary work-around only for those who can't run the newer v6.0.
As soon as you open a project file created in v6.0, it can't go back to a v2.6. And some things done in v2.6 are supported by v6 and others are not...
You may not have any recovery option.... I'd be glad to take a look at the project file (MSWMM) to see if it open on ... |

| it came in fine.... I get the same issues that you do when I try to open it in v2.6 or v6.0 in Vista.
I browsed the file to see if it looks unusual... for anything that indicates it being corrupt... I don't see anything abnormal, which leaves me thinking it's just too much of a mixed bag between v2.6 and v6.0... the code at the lower levels is different.
With the mix of English and Italian, I'm wondering if your language setting(s) could be a factor. I'm guessing you are use the Italian ... |

| P.S... now that I have my first 64 bit laptop, I can say that my 5 versions of Movie Maker are running on it as well as they work on my 32 bit systems... WLMM and MM2.6 on the main hard drive and MM1, MM2.1 and MM6 on a USB thumb drive. |

| Welcome to the forum....
VHS tapes are analog and the computer is digital, so you need something that converts the analog signal to digital.
Windows 7 doesn't come with anything that does it. You need to use a 3rd party gadget of some sort. I use my mini-DV camcorder... plugging the VHS signal into it and connecting it in turn by firewire to my Windows 7 computer (that's called 'pass-thru' as the camcorder does the analog to digital conversion and passes it through to the ... |

| MM for Windows 7 is really Windows Live Movie Maker. MM2.6 was made for Vista.
Yes, I have all those versions on my Windows 7 system. |

| Installing MM2.6 on my Windows 7 system resolved the issues I had with still pictures in MM2.1.
Yes, you would need to register the MM2.1 DLLs... and MM1 also.
MM2.6 and WLMM would be OK... but as MM2.6 is a stripped down version of 2.1, v2.1 has more features. For example MM2.6 can't capture video from a mini-DV camcorder connected by firewire... and it can't capture music or other sounds, something I use often in MM2.1.
Except for paying customers, I prefer chatting publicly about ... |

| no, you don't need MM1 as a prereq for MM2.1
do it in any sequence you like... if you copy the MM2.1 folder over to Win 7 you'll need to register the MM2.1 dll's or you'll find lots of features don't work...
On the MM2.6 download site, ignore the cautions and do it... it's a stand-alone download/installation. |
