editing camcorders

If you feel the need to edit your "home movies", DO NOT purchase a hard drive cam, a mini-DVD cam, or a MPEG4 cam......
You will waste your time and become frustrated...
You want to edit...IE: take out the flubs and whatever...
Stick to MINI-DV............
Yes , those tapes.......
There are countless posts here and elsewhere about this...
The mentioned cams are for shoot and watch....nomatter what it looks like...
Also called CONVIENIENCE............
You serious about making a decent home movie????
GET A MINI_DV................
Even the least expessive would be better than others.........

An example for the above post...
A 1 hour mini-dv tape imported as dv-avi is approx 13 GIG
So WOW your hard drive cam can hold 20 or 30 gig....!!!!!
Or your mini-dvd can hold 20 minutes....
The end result is QUALITY........
You do the math...
You want a crappy movie to show your grandkids?????
Or a decent one????

I agree totally Jimbo, but even more so if you want to show PAST home movies [even from that old FILM stuff] the 8mm digital camcorder is even better as it has a dual purpose of not only capture new stuff [same as you say 13mb ph] but also to morph that old stuff at amazing quality by providing that firewire conversion of the old analog stuff

a Mpeg4 will work on WMM without a headache
Models that will work with WMM
1. Aiptek IS-DV
2. Aiptek IS-DV2
3. Aiptek MPVR
4. Aiptek MPVR+
5. Aiptek PVR
6. Aiptek PKPDVR
7. Aiptek Pocket dv5300
8. DXG 305V, 506V
9 Mustek dv3000
10 Mustek dv3500
11 mustek dv4500
12 Ispan ddv-920

these are all Mpeg4 tapeless technology hybrids that use a sd card and video in AVI, and or ASK format, with codecs supplied by the companies.

They are not the best filming devices in the world, they do great outdoor shooting, andlack indoor quality, if a person is interested in these they Must Understand it is
"A PC CAMCORDER" not "A PROFESSIONAL CAMCORDER"
that said
I am happy I got a dvc mini video cassette unit by jvc grd-395U

but bottom line is that we are are not talking of "technical problems" as such but DELIBERATE DIFFERENCES between the types in order to win the war, similar to Beta cam finally lost to VHS

Is the quality of the video on those Hard Drive camcorders bad? I figured that you could import your video faster going from hard drive to hard drive, no tape to play back to slow things down.

beta vhs camcorder

8mm
min 8
dvc
dvd
min dvd
micro hd

think you're going foward in technology not backward
hard drive camcorder should be of an excellent quality.

Thinking sand, dirt, grease I go with a unit that HAS no moving parts a tapeless unit,t hat means no hard drive, or disks or tapes a sd card.
