Fading overlay image in and out / windows 7 / mm 6
Posted: 20 Sep 2013 03:40 AM
So i have been looking all over this forum, papajons website, other sites this has linked to as well as ones i have found via google search but still cant figure this out and now am trying to figure out if it is even possible.

I used a script from papa jons for image overlays ( Starter Kit for Vista's MM6) and it has an image over lay fade in/out called PapaJohn Overlay fading 1 and 2 and when i use that the images dont fade they just suddenly appear and then suddenly disappear but with no fading. is it because im on a windows 7 and not vista?

I have a regular one i have working that has what i want to appear just fine already but it doesn't fade in or out either.

I have also come across another one from papa johns that in the preview video it has an icon fade in and out but when i used that code it doesn't even show up in my transitions as an option (yes i have restarted wmm6 after uploading it as you are suppose to with all transition changes/uploads) but from what i was reading on that it seems to only be for mm 2.6 is that right?

Is this just something that is not possible in mm6 on a windows 7 computer?

thanks

here is the code i am using for my current image that just appears solid then disappears solid with no fade.

My code above was for WMM 6.0 and is a non-fading logo version. The second version is from PapaJohn but is for WMM 2.x and won't work in WMM 6.0 that way.

I had been working on a way to do fading of a logo in WMM 6.0 awhile ago. I'll have to see if I still have that code around.

I've uploaded an installer on my blog.
Fading Logo Overlays for WMM 6.0

Test it using my sample images, but then feel free to replace them in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX\BlaineLogoOverlays. Just be sure to keep the transparent background and then put your own logo wherever you want. It will appear in that location in the final video.

Everything is working great with this now. fades in and out.

Only 1 question and maybe this is already answered somewhere else. How do you keep the images at a good quality? When i go to full screen the image overlay is really choppy would a larger image work better? or would a higher dpi work better or what? I used the size you have in your up-loader and thats kinda choppy as well the larger the video is played.

thanks

Are you looking just at the preview, or in the final movie? The images I provided are 1920 x 1080 for the 16:9 image and 1440 x 1080 for the 4:3 image and should keep that resolution in the final movie.

Here's a link to a sample video with the logos applied.

Also, take a look at this screenshot of my published movie at 1920 x 1080 from the PC. You can click on that iamge for a close-up of the logo and it looks very crisp, to my eyes.

The image of your logo should have enough pixels to look good when pasted onto a 1920 x 1080 transparent background. I added a drop-shadow with alpha transparency too to help it to stand out from the background, but that shouldn't be necessary to make it look good.

Can take a screenshot of your final movie and put it somewhere like imgur.com, then post a link here? Or post a copy of your logo and I can take a look to see what resolution you are using.

Remember, don't judge the resolution just by the preview in Movie Maker, it may not look the same in the final movie.

Ahhh saving it did the trick, i had not tried saving it yet as i am still trying to get all the effects and such i want to use figured out so i was just dropping in sample clips in the preview but never saved anything. but i went back and saved it and it worked just fine now.

now i just need to figure out how to use the video from my canon 50d (mov) into movie maker still at the HD quality!

I've created a Overlay image in the recommended size purveyed in your post. I created this through GIMP.

The problem is that it never showed up in Preview. :/

Can you take a look at this image here to make sure that I did everything right?

Did the original example logos work?

Assuming they did, then you should just be able to replace the example .png files in that folder. Just be sure they have the same name as before. Your logo overlay looks fine so I would expect it to work...

I have been using the code to create an overlay over my entire video, but I find I have these thin white borders on the left and right side. No matter what I do, I cannot get rid of them.

Why is this occurring when the overlay is same ratio as the output video? And more importantly, how can I prevent this from occurring again?

Do you have an example? Also, can you post details on the exact dimensions of the images you used? And is this 4:3 or 16:9 video? Finally, can you confirm you haven't changed the ratios in the .xml file?

It's okay, I just worked it out. The code I was using was downloaded from Blaine's Movie Maker Blog, and within it was the line...

<Param name="ResizingTechnique" value="KeepVerticalConstant"/>

I just changed the value so it became...

<Param name="ResizingTechnique" value="KeepHorizontalConstant"/>

And it's been perfect ever since.

I'm guessing since the value was set to vertical, the program didn't know to stretch the overlay over the final pixels on either edge. Changing it so it was keeping the longer length constant means the shorter length is stretched correctly.

Okay, let me check what I have on my copy locally and update it accordingly. Thanks for noting this.

Were you seeing the same white bars in the original versions? Also, are you mixing 4:3 and 16:9 footage? Be sure you were using the correct version of the title (4:3 or 16:9) that matches with your project settings (Tools > Options > Advanced > Aspect Ratio).
