Credits with single column and video
Posted: 17 Jan 2012 12:14 PM
Wow, so i've been working on this forever and am about at my wit's end!

I'm trying to make ending credits with:
-Small video on left (for picture slideshow)
-Single column scrolling text on right...able to hold a lot of text

I've been having issues with the text. If i put too many characters on a single line, it scrolls until the last line, then it holds on the top, overlapping everything else. Also, if i want to add a bunch of names close to each other i have to put them on the same line with a bunch of spaces in between...is there a better solution?

Here's what i've put together from other posts so far:

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="TFX">

<Title name="Credits: Video Left (no banner)" guid="Credits: Video Left (Sml Fnt)" iconid="13" >
<Animation value="CreditStandard" />
<Description value="Credits scroll up on the right - DPL mod of Blaine's Post #136645" />
<CreditLineOverlap value="0.68" />
<IsHeaderFullTime value="false" />
<MainVideoRect value="0.0 0.2 0.5 0.5" />
<OptimalDurationMultiplier value="4.0" />
<MaxCharacterCount value="2555" />

<Paragraph>
<RenderOrder value="RenderLast" />
<Param name="BannerType" value="None" />
<BoundingRect value="0.0 0.0 0.5 0.2" />
<EntranceEffect value="EffectFade" evaluation="Linear"/>
<EntranceDuration value="1.0" />
<ExitEffect value="EffectFade" evaluation="Linear"/>
<ExitDuration value="1.0" />
<IsOneLine value="true" />
<HorizontalAlignment value="Center" />
<FontSize value="25.0" />
</Paragraph>

<Paragraph>
<EntrancePosition value="0.5 1.3" evaluation="Linear"/>
<ExitPosition value="0.5 -0.3" evaluation="Linear"/>
<BoundingRect value="0.5 0.35 0.5 0.35"/>
<VerticalAlignment value="Top" />
<FontSize value="12.0" />
</Paragraph>

<Paragraph>
<EntrancePosition value="0.5 1.3" evaluation="Linear"/>
<ExitPosition value="0.5 -0.3" evaluation="Linear"/>
<BoundingRect value="0.5 0.45 0.5 0.35"/>
<VerticalAlignment value="Top" />
<FontSize value="12.0" />
</Paragraph>

</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Any Ideas?

Can you clarify what you exactly want to accomplish? Do you want names and roles scrolling up on the right, or do you just want a big block of text? I tried the code above and I get pairs (name and role) scrolling up with lots of space in between.

Do you want a title in the upper left also, or is that optional? If you don't really want names and roles, do you just want a large block of text?

Okay, here's what I came up with.

Sample Video:
Video with Scrolling Text

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="TFX">
<Title name="Video Left (scrolling text on right)" guid="Video Left (scrolling text on right)" iconid="13">
<Param name="Animation" value="TitleMultiTitles" />
<Description value="Video on left, text scrolls up on the right - Blaine's Post #250503" />
<MainVideoRect value="0.0 0.25 0.5 0.5" evaluation="Linear"/>
<OptimalDurationMultiplier value="4.0" />
<Paragraph>
<BoundingRect value="0.025 0.025 0.45 0.2" />
<RenderOrder value="RenderLast" />
<Param name="BannerType" value="Normal" />
<EntranceEffect value="EffectFade" evaluation="Linear"/>
<EntranceDuration value="1.0" />
<ExitEffect value="EffectFade" evaluation="Linear"/>
<ExitDuration value="1.0" />
<IsOneLine value="true" />
<HorizontalAlignment value="Center" />
<FontSize value="25.0" />
</Paragraph>
<Paragraph>
<BoundingRect value="0.53 0.0 0.46 1.0" />
<EntrancePosition value="0.5 1.5" evaluation="Linear"/>
<MainEffect value="EffectNone" evaluation="Linear"/>
<ExitPosition value="0.5 -0.5" evaluation="Linear"/>
<ExitEffect value="EffectFade" evaluation="Linear"/>
<ExitDuration value="0.5" />
<Param name="VerticalAlignment" value="Top" />
<Param name="ResizingTechnique" value="KeepHorizontalConstant" />
<FontSize value="10.0" />
<MaxCharacterCount value="9999" />
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

To add the title animation to WMM 6.0:
1) Copy/paste the code above into Notepad and save it on your Desktop as VideoLeftScrollingText.xml
2) Copy this file from your Desktop to C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX
3) Restart Windows Movie Maker

To use the title animation in WMM 6.0:
1) Select the clip you want to display as the video.
2) Choose 'Tools' > 'Titles and Credits...'
3) Choose to place the title on the selected clip.
4) Click on 'Change title animation'.
5) Under the 'Titles, Two Line' find Video Left (scrolling text on right)
6) Click on 'Edit the title text'.
7) In the first box, type the title you want to appear in the upper left.
8) In the second box, type the scrolling text you want to appear scrolling on the right. You might want to edit this text in Notepad or other editor, then paste it into the box.
9) Optionally, change the text font, color, etc.
10) Click the 'Add Title' button.
11) You'll probably want to extend the length of the scrolling text title, so go to the Title Overlay track (bottom track) and stretch the title overlay to go to the end of your video clip(s). Remember, the longer the title duration, the slower it will scroll.

For those of you on WMM 2.x (XP), I haven't tested the following code but hopefully it does the same thing. Please let me know.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="{353359C1-39E1-491b-9951-464FD8AB071C}">
<Title name="Video Left (scrolling text on right)" iconid="13">
<Param name="InternalName" value="TitleMultiTitles" />
<Param name="Description" value="Video on left, text scrolls up on the right - Blaine's Post #250503" />
<Param name="MainVideoRect" value="0.0 0.25 0.5 0.5"/>
<Param name="OptimalDurationMultiplier" value="4.0" />
<Paragraph>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.025 0.025 0.45 0.2" />
<Param name="RenderOrder" value="RenderLast" />
<Param name="BannerType" value="Normal" />
<Param name="EntranceEffect" value="EffectFade"/>
<Param name="EntranceDuration" value="1.0" />
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectFade"/>
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="1.0" />
<Param name="IsOneLine" value="true" />
<Param name="HorizontalAlignment" value="Center" />
<Param name="FontSize" value="25.0" />
</Paragraph>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.53 0.0 0.46 1.0" />
<Param name="EntrancePosition" value="0.5 1.5"/>
<Param name="MainEffect" value="EffectNone"/>
<Param name="ExitPosition" value="0.5 -0.5"/>
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectFade"/>
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="0.5" />
<Param name="VerticalAlignment" value="Top" />
<Param name="ResizingTechnique" value="KeepHorizontalConstant" />
<Param name="FontSize" value="10.0" />
<Param name="MaxCharacterCount" value="9999" />
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Did you follow all the steps as shown? Be sure you saved the correct version of the XML (purple=version 2.8=WMM 6.0, blue=version 1.0=WMM 2.1) and that your file name ends with .xml (not .txt).

Thanks for the post Blaine.
Yes, it works for WMM2.6.
Wonder if the text on the upper left could be "typing text one at a time"?

Well, you could add this line to the first paragraph (after the EntranceDuration):
<Param name="MainEffect" value="EffectTypeWriter"/>

The only problem is it will take the whole duration to animate on to the screen. So if you have 30 seconds of scrolling text, it will also take 30 seconds to draw the title in the upper left.

@chaunleetv, what version of Windows Movie Maker are you running? If you are on WMM 6.0, then the code you want is in purple and starts with 2.8. Be sure you save the file with an .xml extension (not something like .xml.txt). If you do it correctly the file should end up with an icon with two brackets < > and a globe in between.

Hello,

First off much appreciated creating this. Awesome effect. I do however have a few tweaks i'm wanting to implement. Not sure if it's doable, but I figured I'd ask the experts.

Specifically, i'm looking to increase the video size by approx 20% and have the credits stop, aligned with the upper banner position. Essentially I'm making a sports video, showing the top ten plays at the end. For the "credits" i'm wanting to show goals scored, assists, etc. Rather than having the credits pass by, I'm looking to have them stop and all displayed at the end of the highlight reel. Make sense?

Again, thanks for all the help!
