Are these files from a Canon digital camera or from AUTOCAD? If you email me a short sample file, I'll see if any of the converters I have will convert it.

The 848,299 KB MVI and 77 tiff images were on a DVD I received in the mail. I do not know the source of the MVI file. I tried every program I could think of but could not convert the MVI.

Try making a copy of the mvi file and then change the file extension on the copy to avi and see if you can convert it using SUPER or VirtialDub.

Neo,

Thank you Super did i!

Just to make a long story, I tried Super earlier, before I had changed the file extension, Super got part-way through the process and said that it could not convert the file and suggested that I install the most current version of Super. When I tried to do that, the new version said it needed to remove my existing version. I agreed but after it removed my working version it found that it could not install the new version because it could not find several things on my computer. So I ended up with neither my old or the new Super. I tried other programs during the day. They did not work. Finally, this afternoon I was able to download and install the latest version and it worked like a charm after the file extension was changed

Curt - glad SUPER did the trick. It didn't occur to me earlier; but, if you've installed Windows Live Movie Maker, you might want to try the mvi file with the file extension changed to avi in it to see if you could avoid the conversion.

Neo,

Thanks for that suggestion. Super worked so well that converting was not a problem and I am avoiding Windows Live Movie Maker.

I have Windows Live Movie Maker, and versions 2.6 and 6.0. I have not tried using Windows Live Movie Maker. All that I read about it seemed to suggest that most people have been disappointed with it. Since I seem to be doing everything with 6.0 now.

I have been wondering whether I should uninstall Windows Live Movie Maker and 2.6 to avoid conflict or confusion. For example, I am sure that I once had more transitions and effects in version 6.0 than I do now and I think having the two other movie maker programs is the reason those transitions and effects disappeared.

Installing another version of Movie Maker shouldn't cause the transitions and effects you previously installed in a different version of Movie Maker to disappear. Check your AddOnTFX folder for version 6.0 and, if the transitions and effects you want aren't in that folder, then try re-installing them.

Neo,

There is a "Movie Maker" listed in both "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)." Which is most likely version 6.0?

Curt, both are probably WMM 6.0. You have both a 32-bit version (in the x86 folder) and a 64-bit version. Since you have a 64-bit version of Windows, I would stick with using the 64-bit version. Make sure your shortcut points to the one in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker. Also, copy anything from the Shared folder and AddOnTFX folders (under the x86 copy) over to C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared so you have all the add-ons under the 64-bit copy.

Blaine,

Thank you. I will copy all of the contents of the (x86) Shared folder to the Shared folder in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker. Hopefully I will then have everything back in my 6.0 version.
If that works, I will then wonder where I will the Shared folder for the Movie Maker Live version?

I copied all of the contents of the (x86) Shared folder to the Shared folder in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker, but I still do not see all of the transitions in version 6.0. For example, I do not see "Barn Doors Open" and "Barn Doors Closed." Is it possible that those transitions do not work with 6.0?

PatrickL made a barn doors transition. Check his website (Google 'DPL add-ons movie maker') I think he just calls it 'Doors'.

Blaine,

PatrickL's "Doors" transtion is good, but I was looking for "Barn Doors" that I believe was made by you. Will that work in Movie Maker 6.0?

My computer is back at the factory and I am a little slow in responding right. In addition, I was not notified when there was a followup on this thread and another one, but I will get back to see your response.

Curt, for e-mail replies, change the setting in your profile to allow e-mail tracking. Additionally, there is a checkbox in the upper left of each thread. Check it and you'll get emails when the thread is updated.

As for my Barn Doors, it is very similar to what PatrickL did with his doors transition except his actually adds perspective, where mine was just a wipe that did a faked barn doors transition. I'm not sure what is better about mine but if you want it...

Blaine,

The "Allow email tracking" box has been checked for several years and the "check box in the upper left of both of those threads was checked, but I still did not receive emails when those threads were updated. But I received an email when you just repled to this thread. I m on a different computer now. My regular computer is back at HP for repairs. Perhaps the lack of emails had something to do with whatever was wrong with the computer that is now back at HP. I did not think of that. I'll see what happens when that computer gets back from HP.

I will also have to wait until I get that computer back from HP to download your barn doors. But was there not an earlier "Barn Doors" transition that was available before Shader TFX was available?

The only one I had was for Windows XP (WMM 2.x). For transitions in WMM 6.0, about the only choice is to use ShaderTFX and in this case it requires an extra image to drive the transition hence the registered ShaderTFX requirement.

I'm downloading Patrick's Doors transitions to see if they require a registered or unregistered version. I think he generates the doors using calculations, not a gradient image.

Thank you for explaining Blaine. I have registered ShaderTFX on the other computer. So I will download your Doors when that computer gets back from HP.

I've now tried Patrick's and I must say they are cool the way they actually open with 3D perspective rather than the fake way my old transition was done.

But take your pick, either of ours will do. Patrick adds some other 1 door transitions, but the ones that match well are DPL Doors2 Close 3D and DPL Doors2 Open 3D.

You can see them at the 0:20 mark in the following sample video

MVI file extension is the default file type of many digital camcorders. This generally means that the file is uncompressed, and will take up quite a bit of space, and can only be handled by a limited number of programs. One is Canon camera videos with a name beginning with "MVI_ XXXX." Well, if you want to play, edit, share the MVI videos widely, it’s better to convert MVI to AVI, WMV, MOV, FLV, MP4… because these file formats are more commonly used for viewing and working on a computer.

MVI, short from Musical Video Interactive, is a movie command file used by AutoCAD. MVI files contain instructions and commands for movies or animated files. MVI files are recorded by Canon Power Shot camera, but it is quite hard to open or play MVI videos on Windows or Mac, let alone to play them on portable devices, YouTube, DVD or edit them in video editing tools.

To convert MVI files, try Cicever MVI Converter. It is very good and can be easily found in google.
