Custom Effects WLMM - Fade In, Fade Out Color Variations (MMK)
Posted: 30 Apr 2011 06:21 PM
These are based on the "Fade Out to Black" and "Fade In From Black" effects.
The color variations are: Red, blue, grey, pink, green, yellow, and teal.
There are 14 effects total.

You can watch a preview video here.

Note - For 64-bit users the path you want to go to is C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\

If you like it, you can download and install it.

Automatic Installation:
1. Download the MMKFadeInFadeOutColors.exe.
2. Run the installation.
3. The effects will now appear under Motions And Fades in Windows Live Movie Maker.

Manual Installation:
1. Download the MMKFadeInFadeOutColors.zip.
2. Unzip the folder.
3. Move the 2 folders inside the unzipped folder to "C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Photo Gallery".
4. The effects will now appear under Motions And Fades in Windows Live Movie Maker.

If you wish to uninstall these you can run the uninstaller called "Uninstall MMK Fade In Fade Out Colors.exe" in the Photo Gallery folder.

If you encounter any problems, please let me know.
EnjoySmiley

MMK - I've also updated the WLMM page at the FX Archive to include these items.

If you used the "Automatic Installation"
Make sure you have the latest version of Windows Live Movie Maker
Make sure you are the admin on your computer

If you used the "Manual Installation"
Make sure you have the latest version of Windows Live Movie Maker
If you are on a 64-bit computer the files need to be moved to C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\
If you are on a 32-bit computer the files need to be moved to C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\
Make sure you placed the files in the right folders.

I recommend the automatic installation to less complicate things.

Hi, I just downloaded some of your custom effects the other day. I used this color fade transition along with a custom animated transition made by you (fade to pink and lip transition). After applying them to the video I was editing it crashed, but I was able to restore the session. I thought it was that I was running different things and didn't think that it could be your effects, so when it looked like it was going to crash again I saved, then it crashed shortly after. That was a bad choice, since now I can't open the file and it says that the file is corrupted. I know this isn't an active thread, or even a very active website but if anyone could help me get back hours of work that would be great. I'm using windows 10 with the newest version of moviemaker. Thanks

If you haven't already done so, open Movie Maker and then click on File and see if there's an earlier version of your project file in the Recent Projects list. If there is, see if you can open it.

Thanks for the response, unfortunately there was no earlier save. However I did figure out that it's likely not your effects. It crashed two more times while I was editing, and after sifting through some awful tutorials on youtube I changed the compatibility mode from windows 8 to windows 7. That has been holding everything together so far, but it still seems to struggle loading and rendering the video when I'm trying to play it through. it's only 15 minutes, but I have a lot of split sections and effects so maybe that's why.

Glad you were able to find something that helped.

Movie Maker also has an autosave feature. Thus, I should have also told you to check the following file path - C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Movie Maker\Autosave.wlmp - to see if that project file would have been of some help.

When you load a video, Movie Maker has to prepare the video for editing. That preparation time can take a while, especially if you have a long HD video clip. The preparation time will also depend on the specs of your computer.

If you haven't done so, check to see if there are any updates for your video card drivers.

You might also want to try playing your videos in Windows Media Player, and, if they don't play smoothly in it, try converting you videos to wmv format.
