Welcome to the forums.
There's not a way to do it in Windows Live Movie Maker but you can install version 2.6 or version 6.0 of Movie Maker and use them to do it. |

I installed windows movie maker 2.6 as well as 6.0. The addons dont work because they are for windows xp and vista and not 7. |

choochoo - the XP add-ons will work in version 2.6 and the Vista add-ons will work in version 6.0. However, neither of these add-ons will work in Windows Live Movie Maker. All three of these versions of Movie Maker can be installed on a Windows 7 system. |

Re: split screen for movie maker on windows 7 Posted: 27 Sep 2010 07:46 AM |
I have just downloaded the rehan split screen exe file [and will donate IF it will do as I am after] and tried the "soft horizontal split" at:
My Sample Movie
The top video has all the action plus audio, and the lower "video" is just a jpg of the sound line
What I am after is that the sound line is just the lower 20% or so of the screen. I tried to change the parameters of "bordersoftness" and "progress" but nothing seemed to change.
Is it even possible to do an uneven split, and if so what are the parameters? |

Doc, try this for 80% of the 2nd clip: (for MM2.1/2.6)
<!-- Save as Split Horizontal Soft 80.xml in the AddOnTFX folder -->
<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{DE75D012-7A65-11D2-8CEA-00A0C9441E20}">
<Transition name="SPLIT: Horizontal Soft 80%" iconid="40">
<Param name="MaskNum" value="2" />
<Param name="BorderSoftness" value="10" />
<Param name="Progress" value="0.8" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
</TransitionsAndEffects>
Good luck, PatrickL

Patrick, you are a genius - like are you Rehan or doing something similar with custom things? ie I want to donate to correct person
I twigged the bordersoftness to 30 and it was just right, click on the first movie in this album as it is only one so far with a soundline
My Sample Movie
so the cursor in WMPlayer marks the position in the audio so you know when good bits are coming up, but it must be LOUD |

Doc, I learned this (and a lot more) from Rehan. Thanks go to him.
I like your treatment of The Ninth. The shutters opening are a nice touch too.

The shutters opening are a nice touch too.
-----------
well I should mention my "tutorials" about 5 years back on MM things incl "door open transitions".
essentially, I saw a door, I had to open it
the quick way to that is via the site map
http://www.familyktab.com/mediadoc/mm/titles/index4.html
so I have been involved in this forum in fits and starts but my stats say a lot of people still look at The Media Doc so I should say this:
My own window open [the green shutters] did NOT work for me after coming back to use it 5 years later, and on investigation the problem was VISTA had required me to install MM 2.6 to make all my old custom stuff work [BUT with huge problems of course in the Program Files dir].
the reason was that the code pointed to MovieMaker dir and not MovieMaker 2.6, SO for anyone using my transitions and effects etc please edit your files as necessary to point to the correct place under program files |

The xml code posted in this thread would not show up in Movie Maker 6.0 because 6.0 uses a different XML. You could so a search in the Vista transitions and effects forum to find a split screen for MM 6.0
Movie Maker 2.6 is probably saved in Program Files\Movie Maker 2.6 and you would need to put the xml file in Program Files\Movie Maker 2.6\Shared\AddOnTFX to get it to show up in MM 2.6. Note that if you are on a 64 bit system, replace Program Files with Program Files(x64).
Microsoft hasn't published anything on how to do custom effects in WLMM, so we cannot tell you how you can get split screen in WLMM.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I have Win 7
I have Windows Live Movie Maker
I downloaded WMM 2.6 for Vista (not XP)
I went to refranfx.org/Shader.htm (I was told I have to have that for Vista)
I downloaded ShaderTFX version 1.0.034
I put the XML folder in the AddOnTFX file (which I had to create cuz it wasn't there) =
Program Files>Movie Maker 2.6>Shared>AddOnTFX
I open Movie Maker 2.6 for Vista (in windows 7) and there is not one PIP, Side by Side..or anything.
I don't know what else to try? I am 13 and I can't afford to go buy expensive editing software....
All I want to to is record me singing and multitrack my voice. I will take a video of each track I sing. I want there to be a video on the screen with all the videos of me singing the different tracks. Any other suggestions?? Help me before I bite someone.....

After much research. It cannot be done. Period. I have to buy some better software. There are NO plugins that will work if you are windows 7. |

Rehan's ShaderTFX package is for version 6.0 of Movie Maker (the version that comes with Vista). Version 2.6 is basically the XP version of Movie Maker repackaged to run under Vista and was intended for those systems whose graphics cards didn't support all of capabilities of Vista.
Split screen can be done in version 2.6 by installing Rehan's XP split screens in the appropriate Movie Maker 2.6 folder. If you want to install version 6.0 on your system, download and run the approriate installer from this page on considerate_guy's blog. You can install both versions on a Windows 7 system. |

The problem with WMM 2.6 is that it is based on WMM 2.1, but doesn't get installed in the same place as on Windows XP. As a result, you'll need to manually move the files.
I suspect you'll find them in C:\Program Files (x86)\Movie Maker, but you need to copy all the contents from there to C:\Program Files (x86)\Movie Maker 2.6 |

Note that 5.1 refers to the version of Windows, not the Movie Maker version. If you look down further on the about screen, you should see that you have Version 2.1 of Movie Maker.
You should be able to use the XP transitions, but I haven't used Rehan's split transitions. |

Do you see the choices for them in your transitions (Tools > Transitions)? You should see several choices that start with SPLIT:
If you don't see them at all, then they aren't installed correctly. If you see them, but they don't appear to be doing the right thing, then let us know. To get a split, you have to apply a SPLIT: transition (e.g. SPLIT: Vertical) between two clip and then overlap the two clips on the timeline as much as possible. |

How with a shortcut to moviemk.exe? the language has to do something with it?, cause i'm from Venezuela, my folders/paths are in spanish, besides that, the path is just the same, and with the defaults it's just not working:(
Thanks |

Re: split screen for movie maker on windows 7 Posted: 30 Nov 2011 09:20 AM |
In English the path to Movie Maker is:
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker
In there you will find the executable program file (moviemk.exe).
The Split transitions need to install in a subfolder of that called Shared, then AddOnTFX. So for English it would be:
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX
If you are on a Venezuelan/Spanish version of Windows, then the names for your folders would be different. Be sure to specify the correct folders for your PC during installation so that the files will end up in the correct folders. |

It's been more than six months since the last post, but I have a question (that's pretty obvious ).
I just downloaded 2.6 and it works fine. However, when I attempted to download the split video installer, it said that it could not. Is the link no longer avaliable? If so is there another that I can use?
Thank you. |
