Converting an FLV File Posted: 31 Oct 2009 10:56 PM |
I downloaded an FLV video and tried to convert it to use in Movie Maker. I used Super, Flvtowwmv and Leawo FLV Converter but have had no luck. The programs either encounter a problem and close or download part of the video without sound.
To see the file I am trying to download click here There are several others videos of interest on that site. So I tried downloading and converting some of them with the same results.
Any ideas?

Hi Neo,
I just tried Media Converter online. It said that this is an an uynsupported web site or file type.
It seems strange that I am having problems because each of the videos on that web site have a message that pops up inviting you to download the file. Unfortunately, they download as flv and converting them is where I have the problem. |

| Curt - that video file (as the others on that site) are on Youtube; here's the link for it. If you haven't done so, try using the Youtube link in Media Converter. |

Thank you Neo,
For some reason I did not think they were on YouTube and was looking forward to learning a new and different way of converting those flv files. Sorry about that. I'll try to remember to think of the most straightforward option to use first in the future. Your patient help is always appreciated.
I'll give Media Converter a try and see how that "conversion limit" that just started appearing works. |

Re: Converting an FLV File Posted: 02 Nov 2009 01:52 PM |
I did not have any luck with Media Converter just because of my own set up. I use Hotmail and Media Converter does not like it. So ages back I added a Yahoo email address that worked in Media Converter. Then Media Converter found my IE 6 out-of-date and would not open for me. So I added Firefox which Media Converter suggested. But somewhere along the way it gave up on my Yahoo email address and will not let me sign-in -- says that account does not exist -- and I did not see how to begin another FREE account. So I gave up on that and started using "Clip Extractor." It downloads avi files but they need to be converted in Super. But between Clip Extractor and Super. I got several of those clips downloaded and converted, ready to use in Movie Maker. Thank you.
By the way, I learned that the Media Converter "conversion limit" only applies as a daily limit of five conversions per day with a free account. So that is not the problem I expected it to be (if I ever get my Media Converter account straightened out . |

| Curt - glad you at least found something that worked. FYI, you should be able to use the online Media Converter service without providing an email address. If you haven't done so, click on the "enter a link" icon in the "conversion wizard" box to start the process. Media Converter should then retrieve the video and convert it to the format you specified and, once it's finished, provide you a download link for the converted file. |

Re: Converting an FLV File Posted: 03 Nov 2009 07:16 AM |
Neo,
When I first started using Media Converter online, unless my memory is even worse than I suspect, I had to go to its web site and it would send a link by email with the converted file. It was when using that process that first Hotmail and then IE 6 became problems for Media Converter online. That is why I started using Media Converter offline only but I now no longer seem to be able to use the offline Media Converter. So I just started trying to use Media Converter online again and was expecting to have to use my Yahoo email address to get the converted file, but it does not work that way any more. Enough rationalizing! As you pointed out, Media Converter now downloads the converted file directly to my computer with no email innvolved.
Thanks for your help again! |

| Curt - you're welcome. How good a job did Media Converter do on converting the Youtube videos? |

Neo,
The video I downloaded was not particularly clear and sharp. (I wish it was.) Media Converter did as good a job as the other methods I tried. Next time I download a nice, sharp one I'll do a comparison of methods and let you know. |
