FotoMorph Posted: 31 Oct 2009 07:13 AM |
Have just come across this neat free little programme that morphs images. It seems a little more upmarket than Sqirlz so thought I would share it with those interested.

I've been using Diphso's FotoMorph for some time now, and it surpasses anything else I've tried out. The big thing for me was that it's super easy to use. I started out making a few morphing projects, but then started finding more uses for it. The pan and zoom features are very easy to figure out and will allow you to work with images of enormous size - I think the most I tried was a zoom in on a 3900 pxl - wide image down to something like 150 x 200 with reasonable clarity. (see video "Guardian Angel" in the samples.) The warping feature is also fun for stretching selected parts of the image as I've also done in a few of the samples. Highly recommended for the layman, like myself, who hasn't travelled too far "down the rabbit-hole" in the programming sector yet - very WYSIWYG-y; saves from having to modify (rehan's) .xml for every pan and zoom effect.
AND it's FREE! No nags or watermarks; you do have to suffer through random ads in the right margin tho.
Some videos I made with this software (at very indiscriminate resolution - I'm learning!) are here:

I happen to find few old versions of them.
What the different? V9 is 6.7Mb and V10 just 2.2Mb |
we can meet on Skype once we decide the time.

As far as I can tell, 9 included a 3.5 MB sample project automatically and 10 gives you the choice in the custom / advanced installation to include it or leave it. (It's the gal who morphs into the Mona Lisa on the website.)
What's different:
9 lets you choose the frame rate, this option appears to be gone in 10.
With V9 you could only create morphs in even increments of 1 sec.
V10 has a fine tune button that adds fractions. So now, it's possible to create a pan or morph with a duration of, let's say, 4 3/4 seconds - useful for more precise syncing to audio and a BIG advantage.
V10 also allows you to add a background (color or image) with controls for transparency. So now, you can have your morphing face with a soft rectangular or eliptical edge superimposed over a static color or image of the Eiffel Tower, for example. A nice touch.
Two hurdles I found after installing it:
The program is apparently set to a default project image size of 0 x 0! (Or is it just my own haunted computer?) The first thing you have to do after importing your images is click on the Animation tab and select the resolution you want - otherwise the preview screen in the other tabs won't work!
The program installed with the application window minimized, so it took me a second to see where the heck it was. Naturally, by right clicking, the run setting can be easily switched to maximize.
I have corresponded with the webmaster since V6 and found him to be very responsive and appreciatived of suggestions. You can him through his site www.diphso.com.
