Trying to publish to computer, stuck at 18% Posted: 24 Jul 2009 03:50 PM |
I was trying to publish a video to the computer last night. The first clip I had readied to publish was about 2 minutes long. I wanted to try and publish it under a HD 720P clip. It would upload to 18% with a time remaining of about 40minutes. After awhile the remaining time would steadily climb. I tried several times using different video sizes, but all would stop at 18%. Even after shutting down all unused programs and leaving the computer running overnight, the remaining time was at nearly 2000 minutes this morning.
Am I doing anything wrong? Original video's were .vob files converted using avs4you video converter. |

Welcome to the forums.
What file format did you convert the vob files to and which version of Vista do you have? If you haven't done so, try converting the files to wmv format. |

debo326 - welcome to the forums.
What's the file format of the files you're using in your project and which versions of Windows and Movie Maker do you have? |

I'm also trying to save my clip like video file but no success. By me it stucks at 10% and then increase the minutes for saving. After many hours waiting the result is no video saved??? Where from comes this problem and can I fix it. For my clip Iuse pictures JPEG and audio music. The only thing I think could be the problem is that the clip is 40 minutes long?
Can someone tell me what to do and how to save the video??? |

debo326 - if the converted wmv files play normally in Windows Media Player, go to "Tools > Options > Compatibility" and uncheck all the filters ending in .ax and see if that helps. If it doesn't, try breaking your project up into pieces and see if you can save the pieces.
kovacheva - welcome to the forums. Too "complex" a project is a leading cause of this problem and, as you suspected, seems to be a likely cause of your problem. Try breaking your project up into pieces and see if you can save the pieces. Also, check to make sure your audio files are a supported fike format (Movie Maker likes wma and wav files best).

The video actually doesn't play normally in movie maker. It plays normally Except for the fact that it automatically pauses at the exact same point every time. I'm pretty sure this is what's causing the saving to stop at 25%
also, i had already unchecked all the .ax boxes |

| It sounds like you have a corrupted file or are using an incompatible file type? Does the clip where it stops playing in Movie Maker, play normally in Windows Media Player? What's the file format of that clip? |

| The video, unedited, plays fine in media player. The video file was originally VOb when I loaded it onto my computer from a camcorder, then I converted it to wmv so that it could be opened in movie maker |

| If you wouldn't mind sharing the wmv clip where it stops with me, upload it to MediaFire and I'll download it and check it out on my system. If you decide to do that, post the download link for the file back here or use the "Contact Me" page on my website to send me the link. |

I have the same problem, trying to publish a 6 minute flick.
I use mp3's that I used in a previous project,
AND Avi files that I also used in a previous project.
I can preview the movie fine, but it just won't publish itself.
Stops at 23% and says something like: "cannot complete, WMM cannot publish this movie to the specified folder, check that your original files are available, and the folder you're trying to publish is aswell" |

| debo326 - most email services limit the size of files you can send via email (10 MB seems to be a common limit used by many). If your file is less than 10 MB, send me a message with your email address using the Contact Me page on my website and I'll contact you with the details on how you can email it to me. If it's larger then 10 MB, try uploading it to MediaFire. |

artron 4000 - welcome to the forums.
Please do a version integrity check by opening Movie Maker and going to the "Help" menu and clicking on "About Windows Movie Maker". Post back with the info on the first four lines on the window that opens. |

| I have the same problem as the others. My total project takes 50 minutes. I have taken part of the project and published that OK. But if I break the project down how can I put the published parts together again as a whole? |

| dleigh - once you publish all the pieces as movies, import those movies into a new Movie Maker project, then add them to the timeline/storyboard in the proper order, perform any final editing and then publish that as your final movie. |

Re: Trying to publish to computer, stuck at 18% Posted: 11 Nov 2009 06:32 AM |
YES! Thanks very much, that has done the job. I now have a 50 minute film. By trial and error I broke down the film into chunks that Movie Maker would handle. In this case it was 12 minute sections (no more!). If I had known that originally, it would not have been a problem to split the video as I created it. In fact Movie Maker did get slower and slower as the length increased. It did however take a long time (and a lot of swearing) to split up the whole 50 minutes once it was created.
Presumably this is an answer to a lot of the other problems people have been having. If this is a limitation to Movie Maker should it not be mentioned somewhere, either in the SW itself or in the Help text?
Many thanks for your help. |

Re: Trying to publish to computer, stuck at 18% Posted: 11 Nov 2009 09:47 PM |
You're welcome, FYI, while project complexity is a common issue with Movie Maker, there is no universal rule for determining when a project is too complex, as it depends on the makeup of the project itself and the characteristics/performance of the computer. I suspect that's at least part of the reason it's not addressed in the program documentation.

Re: Trying to publish to computer, stuck at 18% Posted: 19 Nov 2009 07:30 PM |
| I have a fairly advanced computer and am making a advanced movie with movie maker. It is about 8 minutes and i am using vista. when i go to publish, it gives me the stuck at 8%. I saw the thing about splitting it into chunks, and I would like to do that but unfortunately I have already edited it and don't want to spend 3 or 4 hours on it!!! any suggestions? |
