1.Must I Demux an Avi file?
Posted by abrogard on 7/18/2016 8:27:40 PM

I am a beginner with Movie Maker.

Just want to clean up, cut and join a few holiday videos and still pics into a mini film for family.

Imported an AVI from my Fujifilm camera alright. Then laid a narration sound track on it.

But when I listen I hear the original sound track that was recorded by the camera at the time (mainly wind sounds).

The new narration is there but also those original sounds.

Thanks a lot for that, very informative and helpful. I will give it all a try.

:)
3.Make Movie: Result: No video, only sound.

Running Win7

I have a little .avi made by my Fuji digital camera.

I took the sound off it by diminishing the sound and saving the file.

Then I picked it up again and sure enough there was no sound. Good.

So then I added an mp3 music track. Of the same length.

The whole thing plays fine in movie maker.

Save the thing for computer - makes an mp4, no video, just sound.

I would edit my original post but I can't see how to do that.

Just did a test. New project. Put in the video file. Then 'save movie' to the computer. Did not put any sound on it.

It did the job and told me I could look at it: when it played it was blank, black.

The prog is just not doing the video save. I suppose that means some video conversion. Something or other it is not doing. And doesn't know it is not doing it.
5.No Video!
Posted by abrogard on 11/4/2010 6:32:45 AM

I put in a file - divx - and I cut it up and delete all the bits I don't want and then I push them all together and I highlight or select them all and then I say automake a movie and then I save the movie.... to my computer.... which it does, saving it as a .wmv file....

and when I try to play it, not matter what I use to play it, the sound is beautiful, but there's no video!

actually this very same thing is happening with mpeg video wizard, too, so ...

Thank you, Graham.

Have you got a favorite conversion tool?

And what would you say might be the problem if I make the movie and it doesn't have any video?

I convert using Super and get an MP4 .avi file.

WMM accepts that and plays it okay. I cut it and delete unwanted and everything displays fine.

I put a title on it.

I set automovie to work. It makes a movie.

I save the file.

Whatever I play the file with I get sound and no video. Except ...
8.Saving A Movie From A Cut Up Movie Imported
Posted by abrogard on 10/30/2010 11:05:34 PM
I have imported a little .AVI into WMM and it contains an XVID movie.

It is a 'musical' movie - contains song and dance.

I just want to take out the song and dance sequences and make a mini-movie or two of them.

So I've learned how to cut the movie into parts. So far so good.

And I anticipate probably being able to join certain of those parts together - the instructions seem straightforward enough.

But I ...
9.The Video Plays or The Audio Plays... not both
Posted by abrogard on 10/31/2010 4:13:11 AM

I posted a thread today about how to save a WMM clip.

since I posted it I've been trying different things.

I tried highlighting the clip and saving as a movie and it worked, kinda... but the result didn't have any sound.

then I tried deleting all the cut off bits that I didn't want to retain - retaining only the song and dance routine I wanted.

Then I save the project. then I made a movie of that clip.

Hi....

thanks for that. I did it. Got SUPER and used it. I didn't see how to make a choice for an avi file so I made a dvd file and got a .VOB - which contains mp2 I think, doesn't it?

But what do I use to edit the VOB ?

I got Vobedit and was mind boggled by the interface.... numbers, numbers everywhere and not a hint in sight......

Yes, thank you. I was in error. I failed to see the window that popped up with details of the source file.

I saw it this time.

Carefully followed everything you said. There was one worry - how about the audio bit rate? My source has a variable bit rate and there's no such option. I selected 128 which was listed as the 'nominal bit rate' in that popup window.

After gettting all that done I clicked 'encode' and the prog promptly disappeared ...

Hmm... I can't see an edit option. My post got all mixed up I don't know why. The last line should actually follow the line "Meanwhile googling around........."

Well I tried again and it didn't work again: prog disappeared without notice.

I looked around and maybe the prob was I didn't have 20G free on the OS drive.

I was trying to work off my external 1T drive but maybe this is true.. you need 20G on the OS drive itself, on C: in my case?

Anyway while I was trying to find some room I came across this free download of the winx hd video converter and got it and tried it.

within a ...
