3.Restarting at Forum
Posted by TheDoctor on 6/12/2017 9:38:46 PM
Not been here for some years but still using MM (2.6 I think) in great numbers to make "flyovers", but it becomes increasingly hard as old computers finally die and new computers make it hard to do smart things in MM.

Finally my trusted MM in Vista has ceased to operate correctly (keeps freezing) and seems it happened just after I installed Wondershare video converter as there was a warning sign about "missing handle" when I started up converter for first ...
4.Importing AVI files
Posted by TheDoctor on 12/13/2013 4:27:53 AM
I have just installed MM2.6 on a different Vista PC and all seems the same as for my "normal" PC, even my custom profiles are there, BUT it does not want to IMPORT AVI files

it says I did not check a box in Options to say download applicable codex or whatever but I don't seem to see any such box under options.

all help appreciated
5.Re: Importing AVI files
Posted by TheDoctor on 12/13/2013 7:10:35 PM
Thanks CG, so this is a GLOBAL setting of the PC itself and not in MM2.6?

so I need to go somewhere in control panel?

the files are from Sound Taxi Media Source which [normally] allows me to convert DVD movies to AVI for me to use in MM to make a stock of movies to view on my Notebook full screen in chapters.

it has worked on all computers before XP, Vista and Windows 7, but here I get the error message
6.Re: How to cut segments out of a movie ?

First of all download Moviemaker 2.6 which is the "good old" version that lets you do ANYTHING (not just selfies).
7.Re: Any way to extract audio from a WMV?
Posted by TheDoctor on 3/16/2006 6:47:17 PM
I have used a shareware called LP Ripper - designed to put old LPs onto CD, but I used to transfer VHS concert [Neil Young] to wav files on a CD and sound was fantastic - later I ripped it down to MP3 for the IPod and still sounds good

and come to think of it I have used the MP3 version as background for some MM2 projects
8.Re: MOD file, 16:9 vs 4:3 aspect ratio problem
Posted by TheDoctor on 7/25/2009 10:25:41 PM
I did similar, but as a "roof cam" on my car a few years back using my Sony Video8 and XP MM and was able to get 16:9 result, so maybe you should try MM2.6 as it could all be in the limited save settings of MM 6
9.Re: How to import VHS-C tape to edit with Movie Maker
Posted by TheDoctor on 9/19/2013 8:56:30 PM

I have a VHS-C tape (of our daughter's wedding 20 years ago). I'd like to digitize and transfer the contents to my computer so I can edit it with Windows Movie Maker 6.0.

---

John,

I went through that whole exercise from 2005 to 2008 converting analog video VHS-c and even old Super 8 film from many hours of old footage back to 1977 up to 1992

Once I was shown here how to use firewire to CAPTURE footage I was astounded ...
10.Firefox and wmv videos
Posted by TheDoctor on 9/26/2013 5:12:33 AM
On my PC Firefox has finally refused to display wmv movies.

Over last 8 years or so we have of course had the bitter "war" between the big players, the ActiveX hoax etc etc but up to last month Firefox WOULD show a wmv movie, albeit sometimes you had to click on a "plugin icon" to say yes I trust this malarkey.

Now it simply says you need a plugin and it takes you to a site where there IS no such plugin.

Internet Explorer is ...
11.Re: Firefox and wmv videos
Posted by TheDoctor on 9/27/2013 8:30:05 PM
Thanks again for that CG but what a long winded method to simply get an MM video to play.

anyway please see my second video of the trip to the lake

lake tinaroo

it is at utube but the above is advert free and avoids all the utube bullying to sign in and upload

in firefox the movie window does not fully fit the frame as it does in IE but it's good ...
12.Re: Firefox and wmv videos
Posted by TheDoctor on 9/28/2013 9:52:34 PM
CG, I am wondering what is situation with others seeing wmv movies in Firefox

as I say up till a month back it worked OK even though it sometimes complained plugin might not be safe, but then there was no plugin at all until I went through that very complex process you mentioned.

so does that mean Firefox deleted the plugin from ALL PCs or was it simply my AVG thing being over-active etc?

or would anyone wanting to watch wmv movies have to go ...
13.Making a movie of a GPS track
Posted by TheDoctor on 9/17/2013 4:12:40 AM
Not been here for some time but I have never ceased using MovieMaker over a period of 10 years for many applications, and I owe a big thanks to those such as PJ and CG for getting me proficient in some of the finer aspects.

anyway my latest toy is a Magellan 510 handheld GPS and I just did a 100 mile trip and tracked it on the GPS as well as used an on-car camcorder to film the trip as well.

then I let GoogleEarth do its magic and put the lot together in ...
14.Re: Making a movie of a GPS track
Posted by TheDoctor on 9/17/2013 8:48:13 PM
Thanks CG.

Once I got to the lake and my camping spot at Tinaroo at end of the trip you saw I also tried out the GPS in the canoe on the lake and on a short hiking trail but neither lends itself to making a movie as for a car trip.

The video from the Jeep or Rocsta was nowhere near as good as that I did about 8 years back from my old Volvo which has since rusted and died, and it simply confirms that for a bloke nearing 70 the rock hard suspension of a Jeep is ...

Posted by TheDoctor on 9/18/2013 7:29:10 PM
Thanks, I'll take a look.

I think GoogleEarth itself has a recorder but seems it is only in the professional version at $400.

As for size, I make my whole movie at 640 x 480 [and 1500 kbps] - a standard profile, so I set Recordzilla to that exact size and in middle of screen with GoogleEarth at full screen. And I record at same for camcorder, ie not the HD setting which is 16:9

That usually means the output is clear of all the info/icons ...

Like wow that is some place, kinda dangerous looking [reminds me Vertigo is on TV tonight].

But yes if you were carrying a gps in your pocket it would make an amazing video in GoogleEarth.

and to carry on the joke, at my age it was "one bridge too far"
17.Re: split screen for movie maker on windows 7
Posted by TheDoctor on 9/27/2010 7:46:12 AM
I have just downloaded the rehan split screen exe file [and will donate IF it will do as I am after] and tried the "soft horizontal split" at:

My Sample Movie

The top video has all the action plus audio, and the lower "video" is just a jpg of the sound line

What I am after is that the sound line is just the lower 20% or so of the ...

Patrick, you are a genius - like are you Rehan or doing something similar with custom things? ie I want to donate to correct person

I twigged the bordersoftness to 30 and it was just right, click on the first movie in this album as it is only one so far with a soundline

My Sample Movie

so the cursor in WMPlayer marks the position in the audio so you know when good bits are ...

The shutters opening are a nice touch too.

-----------

well I should mention my "tutorials" about 5 years back on MM things incl "door open transitions".

essentially, I saw a door, I had to open it

the quick way to that is via the site map

http://www.familyktab.com/mediadoc/mm/titles/index4.html

so I have been involved in this forum in fits and starts but my stats say a lot ...
20.Can Someone in America do a test for me please?
Posted by TheDoctor on 11/18/2012 6:54:13 AM
I have a problem buffering and streaming videos rendered at say 1500 Kbps and I feel it has to do with the huge distance across Pacific from USA to Oz.

It is all explained at my blog

blog

So I would be interested to know the comparative speeds of the two Hosts when viewed on USA side of Pacific, if you would be so kind to try the ...

Posted by TheDoctor on 11/19/2012 2:37:13 AM
Thanks for the reply to my blog CG but right now the reply approval thing with blogspot is not working so your reply remains as an email.

So bad news was the results did not really figure but good news is that IN America the American Host should give maybe 3 seconds buffer and continuous from then on.

So that was the version with Moody Blues etc but here is far better Eclipse Music with Beethoven Ode to Joy

22.update on embed code
Posted by TheDoctor on 8/22/2012 2:50:04 AM
I notice that my old web sites containing wmv movies are either slow to load or do not load at all

I figure my code for object/embed [or whatever] is way out of date

is there a simple answer via a code or has Flash/UTube totally killed off any possibility to display your own wmv movie
23.Re: update on embed code
Posted by TheDoctor on 8/22/2012 8:27:14 AM
Thanks for that CG, and all seems OK today by some miracle.

It was not a speed problem as these old videos are only about 300 kbps and ONCE the buffering download got under way the Stats say about 3 to 4 times that speed is coming down the pipes, but rather it was that it was taking several minutes BEFORE any action started.

maybe just a bad hair day yesterday across the Pacific as all my hosting is in USA.

but there DOES seem to be some ...
24.Re: On Allowing Movie Maker 6.0 and 2.6 to Coexist
Posted by TheDoctor on 7/26/2009 8:55:31 PM
well Patrick, you have certainly been a busy boy, some really nice effects there

I like the stacker one especially

I tried out MM 6 yesterday to make one of my google earth movies and all went well, I saved it as a VBR, ready to convert to flash for the web

only problem at present is VideoZilla takes 15 minutes to convert a 40 second clip to flv, and I paid $35 for it so don't feel like paying out again. Know of any free flv converters?
25.Re: On Allowing Movie Maker 6.0 and 2.6 to Coexist
Posted by TheDoctor on 7/28/2009 9:17:40 PM
well apparently utube has recently switched to converting to mp4 recently - or at least that is what they offer back to you

I notice using Vista/IE7 also that the temp directory now "codifies" files into jpgs of all things, maximum 49k size, but obviously "compacting" a lot of information
