Hello. I am new to Movie Maker and to this forum.
I am also having trouble creating a DVD. I have saved my project to Video file on my computer and am using Windows XP. When I try to Create the DVD, it seems to be burning it, but gets about halfway and then freezes. My only choice is then to cancel. The little green marks indicate that its copying/burning to the DVD, but then freezes halfway. I have tried to create the DVD numerous times with the same result. I even ...

Hello, I have not been on this forum for a long time (years), but have always found it helpful. I have several questions relating to 1)my old XP movie maker program, 20, creating movies in Windows 7, and 3) Windows 10.
1) I have continued making movies on my old XP laptop even though I purchased a new laptop with Windows 7 about five or six years ago. The last movie I made on the XP computer was about three years ago. Recently I started making a new movie on the XP computer ...

Thanks so much. I will try to learn how to convert the video files to wmv, as I have no clue on how to do that. Guess I can find a tutorial online (I hope).
what is Windows Live Movie Maker.
As a last resort I will try to download the XP version to my Windows 7. That would be great if I can figure out how to run the virus scan first. As you can tell, I am not very tech savvy, but do love creating movie DVDs for our family.
Thanks again and ...

OK, I did a little research on converting my videos to wmv files. Some of my videos are in the AVCHD format and the others are MP4.
I am not sure whether or not to try one of the free converter sites or one that I'd have to pay for. Some of the ones I looked at are as follows:
Aimersoft which would cost about $50 and I think it only converts the AVCHD files. Am not sure.
The ZAMZAR site is free and I think is for MP4 conversions to wmv. It ...

Thanks. I did try to install Windows Live Movie Maker from the link you shared, but it didn't seem to download. I'm not sure why.
While I definitely would miss the great custom effects from the XP version, it looks like I'll have to find another way to create my DVDs as Windows Music Player seems to have stopped working on my old XP laptop, so I cannot add music. Bummer!
Not sure what I'll do but thanks for your assistance; I do appreciate it. I have ...

OK, I will thanks. I am still toying with maybe trying to load the XP windows movie maker on my Windows 7 computer. Just a little nervous that I won't be able to figure out how to do the security scan. I'd sure love to continue making movies with that program.
Anyway, thanks again. I do appreciate your help.

I intend to purchase a new laptop computer in the next month or so and I understand that most, if not all, new computers come with Windows 7. Can anyone tell me how Movie Maker works on Windows 7; is it easier, better, or what? Thank you for whatever information you can provide.

Wow! Thanks. I had no idea that the orginal WMM wouldn't be included in Windows 7. I had assumed that it would be there as a new and improved version.
Most of my projects are around 1-2 hours long and include mostly photos with occasionally some short videos. My projects are mainly "movies" that I make of photos taken on vacation (and I take thousands, though don't use all of them).
I do like the timeline and always add music. How is music added ...

Opps! I just read your blog on how to access and download WMM 6.0. I cannot get it from Vistas as I do not have that on my current laptop. However, once I purchase my new laptop I think I follow your directions from the links you provided. Thanks.

I appreciate all the help and guidance.

I guess this thread title should really reflect that my project won't completely save. I have tried over and over and it indicates that it has successfully saved, but when I view the "saved" movie, the photos just stop advancing at this one particular spot, while the music continues to the end. The place where it stops is a title slide about 95-98% of the way through the project. I'm going to just try and eliminate that particular title slide and see what happens.

Hi and thank you for all your previous help. I've been able to make several movies successfully since last posting on the forum. However, I've encountered a new problem today. I have two projects recently completed. Both I saved to my computer as a "best fit" rather than an AVI file. The first one burned beautifully, but the second one only burns about 98% and then stops. For these two projects I am using SmartSoft video converter and have tried to burn the second movie several ...

Regarding my previous post today: after posting, I tried burning this project using DVD Flick and had the same result--it stops at one particular point almost all the way to the end. I then tried just playing the saved movie from and on my laptop (not a burned version) and it also stopped at the same spot. The music continues to the end, but the photos don't advance. It hangs up on a slide that has words on it (one that I added between photos). The project before I saved it did play all the ...

At first when I saved the movie to my computer and then burned it to a DVD, the movie played almost to the end but the photos stopped while the music continued to the end. I tried reburning it with the same results. Then I tried viewing the movie on my computer (from the saved movie, the DVD) and it still didn't play all the way through. It would stop at the same place each time, almost to the end, while the music continued to the end and the photos stopped advancing.

How do I do that?
I've never had to convert anything before and have made many DVDs. My project uses photos and music. I have used videos in the past, but not this time. Thanks.

OKAY, I've now deleted the slide where the movie stops and resaved it. Now the movie seems to save, but when I play it, it stops at an EARLIER slide. What the heck is happening?

Thanks again. I've read about breaking a project down, but the one time I tried it, I couldn't piece it back together again. I've had longer projects that saved just fine. I will check out the papajohn site to see what else I might do.
Strangely, I had just saved a similar project earlier this week with no issues. It just doesn't make sense to me. Thanks.

|20.||Getting rid of source files
Posted by Taffygirl on 3/30/2011 8:55:31 AM
This may be a "duh" question, but is it okay to delete source files (photos and music) once I've successfully saved a movie maker project? My laptop is nearing capacity and I've been afraid to delete stuff I've used in previous projects. Thanks.
|21.||Re: Getting rid of source files

I'm happy with the movies that I've successfully made and have kept the saved movies on my computer (even after burning DVDs). I do not plan to make any edits to any of them, so is it okay to delete the source files (photos and music) that I used for them.
Do I understand correctly that as long as I have a saved movie, the photos and music used in them will not disappear from the saved movie if I delete the source files? Is this correct?

Hi. I am getting the same message as stated above when trying to save my most recent project to my computer. I've had trouble in the past saving a large project and have had to cut them down. I've been successful with past projects of under an hour in length (most are about 45-50 minutes long) and have cut my current project into half hour segments, but it still won't save.
As far as the error message (as someone posted above), my orgininal source files are where they ...

Hi. I just posted my similar problem on a different thread before reading this one. I have a large project that includes photos, music, and transitions and I've broken it down to 30 minute segments. I've successfully made projects that were 45-50 minutes long with pictures and music. This is the first time I've used transitions in a large project. I do have XP, so could the transitions be the reason why I cannot save this movie to my computer? If so, I don't mind deleting the transitions if ...

Thanks Neophyte. I am eliminating the transitions in one of the sections that I broke my project into. Since these transitions seem to affect the length of the movie (seems to take one second off for each transition added and then adds back a second for each transition deleted which I find strange), I am now needing to adjust the music I had with the project and then I will try to save it to my computer and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the explanation.
