|1.||Unwanted Black Border on Imported Video
Posted by Curt on 8/17/2013 4:01:58 PM
In Movie Maker 6.0 I imported a brief video (from JibJab). After it is converted to either .wmv or .avi there is a black border at the top and bottom of the screen in Movie Maker. How do I get rid of those unwanted borders?

When this clip is produced by JibJab it says " Frame Width 640" and Frame "Height 360."
When converted by Format Factory to .avi its "aspect ration is 4:3." I do not use widescreen.

I'm sorry to say that I am going in circles. All I do in Jib Jab is click on Felice Navidad and when it opens I personalize it (by adding faces). I do not see anywhere in that process to select or change the aspect ratio. I use Format Factory to convert it to .avi format. Again, I do not see where I can select or change ratio. When I change the aspect ratio in Movie Maker it produces a clip with black borders all around the picture. So that has not helped.

I am impressed with your calculations. Thanks for doing all of that thinking about this.
I apppreciate it very much.
I'll try starting a new project of just the JibJab and changing the aspect ration and see what happens.

I downloaded WinX DVD Ripper, but it was a trial version good only for less than 5 minutes use. The message said that the Fre Platinum offer expired October 1st. Any suggestyions.
This free offer was timely for me. I am making multiple copies of a set of DVDs using RecordNow. When copying the last DVD in the set (naturally), Record Now started acting up. It is rejecting every blank DVD I try to use and they are all good, new ones and have worked fine ...

Your link leads to several choices for downloading WinX DVD Ripper. The choice dated September 16th (the one next to the bottom of the list) is the correct one. It leads to winx-dvd-ripper-pt-full-oct.exe which is the free program. The "oct" in that link is the key to being the free version.

What shareware converts mvi to wmv?

The 848,299 KB MVI and 77 tiff images were on a DVD I received in the mail. I do not know the source of the MVI file. I tried every program I could think of but could not convert the MVI.

Thank you Super did i!
Just to make a long story, I tried Super earlier, before I had changed the file extension, Super got part-way through the process and said that it could not convert the file and suggested that I install the most current version of Super. When I tried to do that, the new version said it needed to remove my existing version. I agreed but after it removed my working version it found that it could not install the new version because it ...

Thanks for that suggestion. Super worked so well that converting was not a problem and I am avoiding Windows Live Movie Maker.
I have Windows Live Movie Maker, and versions 2.6 and 6.0. I have not tried using Windows Live Movie Maker. All that I read about it seemed to suggest that most people have been disappointed with it. Since I seem to be doing everything with 6.0 now.
I have been wondering whether I should uninstall Windows Live ...

There is a "Movie Maker" listed in both "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)." Which is most likely version 6.0?

Thank you. I will copy all of the contents of the (x86) Shared folder to the Shared folder in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker. Hopefully I will then have everything back in my 6.0 version.
If that works, I will then wonder where I will the Shared folder for the Movie Maker Live version?

I copied all of the contents of the (x86) Shared folder to the Shared folder in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker, but I still do not see all of the transitions in version 6.0. For example, I do not see "Barn Doors Open" and "Barn Doors Closed." Is it possible that those transitions do not work with 6.0?

PatrickL's "Doors" transtion is good, but I was looking for "Barn Doors" that I believe was made by you. Will that work in Movie Maker 6.0?
My computer is back at the factory and I am a little slow in responding right. In addition, I was not notified when there was a followup on this thread and another one, but I will get back to see your response.

The "Allow email tracking" box has been checked for several years and the "check box in the upper left of both of those threads was checked, but I still did not receive emails when those threads were updated. But I received an email when you just repled to this thread. I m on a different computer now. My regular computer is back at HP for repairs. Perhaps the lack of emails had something to do with whatever was wrong with the computer that is now back ...

I downloaded a video using Camtasia Studio 3.1 as .avi, got beautiful video but no audio. I found the same clip on YouTube and tried to download it using Freemake Downloader. Freemake just stopped during downloading. Any suggestion?

Thank you very much. I was starting to think that it was just one of those clips that could not be downloaded properly. I am glad that I asked and that you took the time to investigate.
I'll upgrade my Freemake.

The idea of using a computer voice sounds good. I did a search for Microsoft Sam, Microsoft Mike, Voice and Speech and found nothing. I have Windows XP. Is there something that I could download?
Oops! I found it under Speech in Control Panel. (I only have Microsoft Sam.) Did I gather correctly that its purpose is to convert speech to text? How about the reverse, could I use it and type text that it would covert to speech that I could record?

Thanks for your usual detailed instructions. I got up to having Sam speak the line that I typed. Then he turned into a blabbermouth. I could not shut him up. (Actually, I was glad that he was talking, but I could not distinguish what he was saying in addition to my typed sentence.) However, I was NOT able to record him.
I used "Search" and found "Easy MP3 Sound Recorder" and "Sound Recorder." I tried using Sound ...

I did download Balabolka. It seems good! It allowed me to download Microsoft Mary and Mike voices which I did not have. I also downloaded a group of American English voices. The Microsoft Voices (Mary, Mike and Sam) worked fine. However, I could not get any of the American English Voices to read text. I did download and install stchapi.exe. Any suggestions?
Thank you for suggesting Balabolka.

I have the Microsoft voices and the American English voices working in Balabolka. What is the best way to save them for use in Movie Maker. It seems strange to click on "Save as" either before or after they speak.

Thank you. It all works great in Movie Maker. I appreciate your help. I hope that you find a practical solution to your problem that does not require a new computer (unless you want one).
Thanks for getting me started on this. I am not sure how I will use it but I am really pleased to have it and am thinking of possibilities for using it.
